Title of Work: Flowers After a Spring Rain
Statement: Flowers are beautiful year-round but the time of the year in which they bloom the best and shine like no other, is after a spring rain.

Spring is the time for rebirth, renewal, and escape. A time for flowers to grow. Which makes this current time so strange as it is so odd having flowers be stuck inside, unable to experience the beauty that is spring rain and the bloom follows. Flowers are meant to be enjoyed by all and to bask in the sunlight. They are meant for the outside world…not to be caged in.
These photos explore the narrative of the oddness of flowers being stuck inside, to the COVID-19 pandemic. Without the ability to go outside, we aren’t able to see and enjoy the beauty of each other. A flower can only see its beauty by reflection and the same goes for people. It’s important to keep acknowledging one’s self worth, one’s beauty. There is so much beauty that is currently isolated. So many flowers, so many people, decaying from being inside.
Spring rain brings the beauty out of everything, but until then, we can bloom for ourselves.

花儿一年四季都很美，但一年中最盛开、最灿烂的时候是在春雨之后。
春天是重生、更新和逃避的时候，是花朵生长的时候。这使得现在的时光如此奇怪，因为它是如此反常，花朵被困在笼中，无法体验春雨和花开的美丽。花是为了让所有人都能欣赏和享受阳光。它们是为外面的世界准备的……而不是被关在笼子里。
这些照片探索了COVID-19流行期间，花朵被困在笼中的奇怪故事。如果没有走出去的能力，我们就无法看到和欣赏彼此的美丽。一朵花只有通过反射才能令人看到它的美，人也是如此。不断承认自己的价值和美丽是很重要的。有这么多的美，目前是被隔绝的。这么多的花，这么多的人，正从内部腐烂。
春雨带来万物之美，但在此之前，我们可以为自己绽放。
Biography: Kayla Idesa Marie Timbol is a photographer mainly focusing on portraiture, fashion, and as well as photo-journalistic photography. Her photographic style incorporates fine-art, commercial and event photography techniques and aesthetics, allowing her to be versed in various methods. Kayla is a recent graduate of Columbia College Chicago, with a BA in Photography. Being a Filipino International Student, born and raised in Japan, her diverse background has influenced and inspired her love of the arts and specifically photography. Hoping one day, in the future, to be based in the United States and Japan. Currently working freelance, she has work experience in maintenance, assisting, digital tech, service work, and editing.
